AUTHENTIC, INTENTIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND CURRICULUM
We work diligently to educate children in an inclusive environment. All classrooms are designed to provide children with non-stereotyped books, materials, experiences and culture. The equipment and curriculum will offer children opportunities which reflect upon and value people of all ages, abilities, ethnic backgrounds, gender, sexuality and more. We hope to educate children that it is OK to be different, that it is important to be kind, and that empathy is valued and encouraged. We may not always agree, and that is both expected and understood, but kindness towards one another, and caring about the needs, interests and feelings of others is essential. We invite children to celebrate their own unique gifts, and we support them in their journey of self and world discovery.
We thoughtfully create classrooms based on the needs and interests of the children in each individual classroom. We do not script classrooms, and we are strong believers that educators should intentionally create, modify, and offer evolving environments which meet the children where they are, and inspire them to engage comfortably with all materials and learning opportunities. The temperament of each child within a classroom plays an essential role in our classroom designs and helps to guide us in providing rich learning environments that engage children in the process of learning based on their unique needs and interests.
As educators, we are inspired and enriched by nature. We share our love of nature, and the many holistic benefits it evokes by infusing it into our classrooms and program. The children and educators have reaped tremendous benefits by inviting nature into our program. Some of the ways we infuse nature into our world of discovery includes providing natural, organic materials for children to explore, creating intentional spaces for children with real images of nature, creatures, geography, science and more, caring for live plants, herbs and creatures, focusing on soothing, neutral palettes of color inspired by nature, providing real wood furnishings, and home-like carpets and materials. Outside we invite children to explore the natural world as well. Tree stumps, cedar blocks, water pumps, live plants, wood surfaces, dirt mountains, rock piles, a toddler tree house, child-created musical chimes, mud kitchens, sunflower gardens and more inspire children to investigate, ask questions and experience hands-on learning.
Of utmost importance to us is the creation of warm, nurturing, supportive and home-like environments for children. We want the children to feel comfortable, respected and, above all, LOVED and VALUED for who they are - just how they are!
